mommy wants teacups now. What are you people playing this weekend?

Bonus question: What’s your favorite gamepad? Yes, you are allowed to pick an obscure PC-only gamepad you particularly liked.

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Exercise games are gonna give me a bit of a workout, and then I’m rushing to a console party for what I’m hoping will be some Mario Kart: Double Dash time. Jackbox games will happen for sure. Sunday will probably be some Splatoon 3 time.

Favorite gamepad is a bit tough. Overall, I like the Gamecube the best. The Switch Joy-Cons have some really interesting features to simulate feelings of, say, water or marbles, but I can’t think of a single game beyond 1-2 Switch that makes use of that. The Wii U’s gamepad with a screen got better use, especially for Splatoon.

Andy McAdams: Doing some IRL stuff this weekend, so probably won’t be playing much. I’m going to guess the limited time I have will go to Lord of the Rings Online.

Bonus Question: Uh. Probably the Switch? Maybe the N64 gamepad but that’s only because it looked crazy and had the third prong no one ever used

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): So I’m not sure where I’ll be this weekend. I’m celebrating my birthday, so that will take out part of the weekend, but if I get gaming time, it’ll likely be in Lord of the Rings Online. I need to check out the festival because I want that dumb horse with the bard equipment strapped to it. Need.

None of them, to be honest. I mean, the Switch’s at least are cute, but controllers are generally not made comfortable for small hands even when those controllers are small, and I console game so seldom that I’ve not bought the niche ones that make the attempt. Mouse and keyboard please.

Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): This weekend is mostly about going back to lapsed games; I’ve settled on a Sorceress as my seasonal character in Black Desert, I’m trying a hand at a fire staff-wielding character in New World, and I think I am having fun in Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis all over again. There are also the usual activities in Destiny 2 and Final Fantasy XIV.

I honestly adore my Xbox gamepad for a couple of reasons. For one, it’s got great feeling buttons, and for two, it is hot pink.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Some FFXIV and some single-player stuff; this weekend will hopefully be low-key and I’ve got a lot of just… relaxing to do. This week has not gone well. But I’m settling in and hopefully can spend the weekend peacefully.

The Dualsense controller for the PlayStation 5 immediately won my heart, and while it is a bit more wonky than other controllers on PC, I am willing to put up with that for a positive experience. Something about the form factor just makes it more satisfying to me. Meanwhile, everyone else’s answer to the bonus question were criminally wrong, and aside from Chris who at least has a hot pink controller everyone else will be tried in the Hague.

Mia DeSanzo (@neschria): I expect a fair amount of chaos this weekend due to various extended family events, but I may slip back into Black Desert to see what’s up there. It has been a long time.

Sam Kash (@thesamkash): I didn’t get a lot of gaming in last weekend so Chained Echoes continues to be on the docket. I was able to complete my tour of Tower of Fantasy so it’s nice to have that out though. I’m not sure what else I’ll be playing. I’ve got an IRL tabletop session planned too. Boardgames for the win.

Bonus: I’m a simple boy. Xbox One controllers have all been top notch for me. Although for many formative years I played PSX exclusively so even today 15 years since I played PSX last I still call the buttons square, triangle, x, and circle. Throws people off when they’re asking me what button does what.

Tyler Edwards (blog): Continuing my replay of Dragon Age: Inquisition, and I might have a D&D session. Maybe some New World, too, should the mood strike me.

Alexander Metcalf, patron: Embers Adrift was a dud. Still kicking it in Albion Online, but looking for a second game to add into the rotation. The Star Wars: The Old Republic news got me all nostalgic for my time spent there (not nearly nostalgic enough to go back, though) so I started looking at Star Wars Galaxies Legends again. May install and jump in. Also thinking of waiting to see what Chris’ next CMA game will be and just play that. And I’m trying to resist the urge to VPN my way to Japan for the Blue Protocol launch next week.

Bonus: I haven’t used a gamepad (you heathens, it’s called a “controller”) on a PC in probably 20 years. For consoles, I guess my favorite is the original PlayStation controller. That thing could take a beating.

Pierre, patron: I have time for gaming this weekend, so there will be a lot of Diablo IV. I just found time to start the adventure with a Druid one week ago and suffered some technical issues (RAM saturation apparently – I’m playing on PC) that made the CGs in game impossible to launch. Hopefully, the multiple updates have solved the issue. I also changed a lot of parameters including virtual memory management that should offer better performance for the game. I’m also finishing my playthrough of Quantum Break. I really like the game. I think I see where the story is going but probably didn’t guess everything about the ending of the game. And on the MMO front, I’m enjoying my time back in Final Fantasy XI. Even if it’s old, what an amazing MMO. ^^

Bonus question: I know lots of people have a favorite gamepad, with the eternal conflict between symmetric and asymmetric sticks devotees (a very agressive conflict sometimes, almost as disputed as the famous “what’s the best FF game?” question.. of course it’s FFVII… what did I do here lol), but I can play with any pad; I just adapt. I don’t like the Nintendo pads a lot, so they’re probably my least favorite ones, but probably because I haven’t played a lot on those. So basically, imho, it’s just a matter of habit and getting used to a gamepad.

And you MOP readers, what are you up to this weekend? I’m also really sorry in advance for the “what’s the best FF?” discussion in the comments that will result from my obvious provocative mention of it and generate great turmoil xD.
